Tech Tip of the Day: How to download, install and immunize your browser with Spybot

Description: This article will show you how to download, install and immunize your browser using Spybot. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.¹

1. Open you browser and go to the SpyBot home page
   
   
   
   
2. Click on the download link in the upper right corner.
   
3. When the page loads click download
   
   
   
   
4. Select the mirror to download from
   
   
   
   
5. Click on the download link
   
   
   
   
6. Select ‘Run’ to start the download and install
   
   
   
   
7. Select language and click OK
   
   
   
   
8. Click on Next
   
   
   
   
9. Accept the license agreement and click Next
   
   
   
   
10. Select or change install location and click Next
    
    
    
    
11. Select or deselect components and click Next
    
    
    
    
12. Select start menu folder location and click Next
    
    
    
    
13. Select Additional Tasks and click Next
    
    
    
    
14. Click on Install to begin installation
    
    
    
    
    
    
15. Select Finish when install is complete
    
    
    
    
    
    
16. Click on Create Registry Backup
    
    • When completed, click Next
    
    
    
    
17. Select "Start Using The Program"
    
    
    
    
18.  Click on Immunize to immunize your browser.
    
    
    
    
19. When Immunization scan is completed and unprotected lists zero, close program.

Tech Tip of the Day: How to create Relationships in Microsoft Access 2010

Description: This article will detail the steps for creating relationships between tables in Microsoft Access 2010. This is helpful when a table has a field that is the same as a field in another table, and a relationship is needed between those tables.

1. Click on the Start Button in the bottom left corner of the screen. Click All Programs.
   
   
   
   
2. Scroll down and expand the Microsoft Office folder, then click Microsoft Access 2010.
   
   
   
   
3. Microsoft Access will populate a list of most recently opened databases.
   
   
   
   If the intended database is in that list, click on it to open.
   
   If it is not in the list, click Open, then navigate to the database's location on the computer, select the database, and click Open.
   
   
   
   
4. Once the database is open, click the Database Tools tab on the ribbon.
   
   
   
   
5. Click on Relationships.
   
   
   
   
6. On the Show Table window, click the table to be added, then click Add. Do this for each table to be added.
   
   
   
   
7. When all the desired tables have been added, click Close.
   
   
   
   
8. Select the common field to be used in the relationship.
   
   
   
   
9. Click and hold the selected field, and drag it to the matching field on another table, then release the mouse button.
   
   
   
   
10. The Edit Relationships window will appear. For best results, click the checkbox next to
    Enforce Referential Integrity. This will ensure that the relationship is valid and that the field data types match. Click the checkbox next to Cascade Update Related Fields to ensure that when a field is updated in one table, that change takes effect in the related table. Click the checkbox next to Cascade Delete Related Records to ensure that when a record is deleted in one table, that change takes effect in the related table.
    
    
    
    
11. When finished, click OK.
    
12. Follow steps 8 through 10 for each desired relationship. When finished, the established relationships will be shown graphically, as depicted below:

How to use System Restore in Windows 7

Description: How to use Windows 7 System Restore to recover from software problems. A System Restore is used to recover from problems caused by software that was working a short time ago but has suddenly stopped working or is not working correctly. Windows 7 has the ability to make what are called "restore points" which make a snap shot of the programs and settings of the computer at a specific time. Win 7 does this automatically when updates are applied but it can also be done at any time a user wants to do this. The restore will go back to a previous registry, and to previous software that was installed before the restore point was made. System restore can be accessed through several paths.

1. The first is by using the search function found in Windows 7.
   • Click on Start
   • Type the word restore in the "search programs and files" field.
     
     
   
   
2. The Control Panel is another path.
   • Click on Start 
   • Control Panel 
   • In the top right, change view to small icons
     
     
   • Click on the System Icon (alphabetical order)
     
     
   • In the window that opens, look to the top left and choose System Protection
     
     
   • In the pop-up box choose the System Restore button
     
     
   
   
3. The repair section of the F8 menu is also a path.
   • Power off the computer
   • Press the power on button and immediately start tapping F8 about twice a second.
   • A black screen with white writing and several menu items will appear.
   • One item will be Repair Your Computer
   • Move the arrow buttons on the keyboard to highlight this and then choose the repair menu by pressing the Enter (return) key on the keyboard.
   • Choose System Restore from the list of options.
4. Using System Restore
   • There are two options on the opening screen:
   • Recommended restore  - This is the latest restore point that has been created.
     
     
     
     
     • Click on Scan for affected programs to see a list of programs that are known to have been changed since the restore point was made.
       
       
   • Choose a different restore point
     
     
   
   
   • This will be a list of all the restore points available.
     
     
   
   
   • First put a check in the box in the lower left "show more restore points"
   • Choose the restore point date to go back to.
   • Then click on "scan for affected programs"
   • A list of programs that will be changed or restored will appear.
     
     
   
   
   • Close the box and if this is the desired restore point, click next
   • A "confirm your restore point" box appears.
   • Click on the Finish button to complete this.
     
     
   
   
   • The computer will take about 5 minutes to finish this restore and the computer will reboot. When this is finished log back into the computer and test to see if the issue has been resolved.

Installing ESET Version 5 on top of Version 4

This guide will show you how to install the new version of your ESET NOD32 Antivirus over the top of version 4. It is recommended that you print or bookmark this guide as the system might be rebooted during the process.

1. Open up Internet explorer, clear the address bar and type in www.eset.com to go to ESET´s webpage.
   
   


2. Click on Download on the menu bar, and then click on "Take me to my download"
   
   
   


3. Click on the download button for Antivirus 5.
   
   


4. Click on Run
5. Confirm English is selected, and then Click on the Install button.
   
   


6. A download window appears with a progress bar
7. Click on "I Accept" on the End User License agreement.
   
   


8. Put the check mark in for Detection of Potentially Unwanted Applications, click on Next.
   
   


9. Install window will appear, it will complete five passes to 100%.
   
   


10. Click on the Finish.
    
    


11. If the icon is orange for ESET on your system tray, open ESET
    
    


12. Click on start, all programs, ESET, ESET antivirus.
    
    


13. Click on the home tab, it will tell you what action is required next.
    
    


14. It will likely tell you that you need to restart the computer.
15. Once the computer is restarted, the icon should appear green and the process is complete.
