Time to renew ESET Antivirus? Part 3

Part3: Finalize Your Renewal
1. After submitting the registration form, in a few moments a page that looks blank will appear. Scroll up to the top of the page to see the new Username and Password. Also, an email will be sent (up to forty minutes later) with a copy of this new Username and Password in it. Once you have this new Username and Password, the ESET program needs to be updated with this new license information.

2. ***If you already have version 4 or later of ESET installed, skip this step and proceed with step 3***

This step is to download and install the latest version of the ESET program. Before downloading the latest ESET version, verify the bit type of Windows that is installed on your computer. Windows XP is 32bit. Windows Vista or Windows 7 may be either 32 or 64 bit. To check which bit type is installed, click the start menu, right-click Computer, choose Properties, in the window that opens look for System Type under the System heading, this will say either 32 or 64 bit.

There are several ways to get to the download page for ESET; the link in the registration page next to the new Username and Password, the link in the email sent after registration, or open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari) and type in the ESET downloads webpage (www.eset.com/download/home). Once on the download page, choose the bit type that matches the bit type of Windows installed (32 or 64 bit). Then choose the version of ESET purchased, either NOD32 or Smart Security, and click the Download button. A window will pop-up and ask for the new Username and Password that you received from registering ESET. Type in that new information EXACTLY and click OK. A window will open asking what you would like to do with this file, Run, Save, or Cancel, choose “Save.” Now the window will ask where you want to save this file, save this file where you can find it again. If you have the option to save it to the desktop, that would be the best option. Click Save, and allow the program to download. Before the installation of the new version of ESET can be performed the old ESET program needs to be uninstalled. To uninstall the current ESET program, use the uninstaller that came with the ESET program (Start > All Programs > ESET > Uninstall). Do not use Window’s uninstaller. It will cause problems, only use the ESET uninstall option. After the program is uninstalled, it will ask to restart the computer. Restart the computer, and then you will be able to install the latest version. Double-click the ESET installer to start the install process. This new copy of ESET will request the Username and Password about three screens into the installation, finish the installation and you are done with the ESET renewal! Skip over step 3 and proceed with step 4.

3. ***If you did step 2 above, skip this step and proceed directly to step 4***

4. This step is to continue to use the version of ESET you already have installed in the computer. If you already have version 4 or later of the ESET program installed, open the ESET program by selecting the icon down by the time on the taskbar and choosing “open window” (double-clicking the icon also works). You may also access the program from the start menu (Start > All Programs > ESET > ESET NOD32 Antivirus). Once you have the ESET program open, select “Setup” from the left column menu. After selecting setup, click on “Set up Username and Password for update…” or “Username and Password setup” whichever is shown. A small window titled License details will open displaying your old Username and dots for your old password. Check the email you received from noreply@orders.eset.com for your new Username and Password. Change the Username and Password from the old to the new set and click ok. After you have changed the license details box, select “Update” from the left side column, and then click on the blue text that states “Update virus signature database”. The ESET program will then update and you are finished! If you get an error trying to update the virus database, most likely cause is a Username or a Password typed incorrectly. Go back to “Setup” and the license details box and re-enter the new Username and Password. Remember capitalization matters and the hyphen is needed as well. The Username will start with a capital “EAV-.” The Password will be ten characters and will be all lower case with a couple of numbers mixed in.

5. You can verify that the ESET program is current by opening the ESET program and selecting “Protection status” from the left side column. It will state “Maximum protection,” and the ESET icon in the taskbar down by the time will change to a green (NOD32) or green-blue (Smart Security) color.

Time to renew ESET Antivirus? Part 2

Part2: Register Your Renewal
1. After you have purchased a renewal license from Micro Center’s website, you will receive via email two email messages. The second email message will have an “Activate Now” link. Please select this link to be directed to the registration page automatically, and the serial number will be entered for you. I highly recommend using the link in the email due to the fact that the serial number is rather long and complex. If you printed out your email and no longer have the Micro Center email with the link, please go to www.eset.com/microcenter to register your renewal license.

2. Once you have the registration page open, enter your information to register the serial number you received in the Micro Center email. The “Passphrase” that it asks for on the registration form is to secure your information in the ESET servers and has no relationship to any other part of the renewal process. A good default passphrase for this form is “1password,” and does not need to be remembered. At the bottom of the registration page, there will be a field for your serial number. If you used the link in the email, the serial number will already be entered for you. If you did not, remember that the serial number is all capital letters with a few numbers, and enter it EXACTLY as it appears in the email, entering hyphens (minus) where shown. Partner’s email is not required, and is only used to send a copy of the new Username and Password to another email address. After you have fully completed the required fields of the registration form (notated with a red asterisk), verify the serial number (if manually entered), and double/triple check the email address BEFORE you click submit. The email address is how ESET tracks this license. If the email address is entered incorrectly into this form, completion of the renewal process will be very difficult at best. If you are certain the email address and the serial number are correct, click on the “Submit” button at the bottom of the form. There will be a delay of up to a few minutes as the ESET server stores and updates information of your registration.

3. In a few moments, a web page will load, but LOOK blank. Scroll to the top of the page to see your new Username and Password. If you got an error message rather than a new Username and Password, your renewal license is not registered, and this is usually caused by a serial number being entered into the registration page incorrectly. Pay attention to the error. If the error refers to a script error or a 404 webpage not found error, the server is being updated and is currently offline, wait about 2 hours and try to register again. If the error refers to an incorrect serial number please verify the serial number and try again. Often serial numbers if entered manually will have the letter “O” and the number “0” mixed up, please verify that the serial number is entered exactly as shown from the email and try to register again. If you see your new Username and Password on the page, your ESET is registered, and you will receive a copy of this information in an email shortly. Sometimes the email takes up to forty minutes to be received.

Time to renew ESET Antivirus? Part 1

Part1: Purchase Your Renewal

1. Use your current Username to access the ESET store. The Username will be a capital EAV- followed by some numbers (e.g. EAV-87654321). The ESET store is found on the front page of Micro Center’s website. Scroll down the Micro Center webpage until you see ESET –renew today- on the RIGHT side of the page. The ESET store is accessed by your current Username OR your current serial number (NOT BOTH). The ESET store is also accessed directly by this link: (http://www.microcenter.com/storefronts/eset/renew.phtml )

2. To find your current Username, open the ESET program by clicking on the ESET icon in the taskbar by the time on the Windows desktop and selecting “open window.” You may also access the program from the start menu (Start > All Programs > ESET > ESET NOD32 Antivirus). Once you have the ESET program open, select “Setup” from the left column menu. After selecting setup, click on “Set up Username and Password for update…” or “Username and Password setup” whichever is shown. A small window titled License details will open showing your current Username and dots for your current Password. Please note the capital “EAV” with the hyphen (minus) along with the number. This Username must be typed in to the ESET store page exactly as shown (capitalization matters).

3. Once you have your current Username, and have entered it exactly as was shown in the ESET program, click submit button to continue the purchase process. On this next page you will have the choices for renewal. The first selections on this page are for NOD32, and the last selections are for Smart Security. The number of Users refers to how many computers will use this renewal license, and the Year refers to how long before you renew this license again. After you have decided which item to purchase, click on “ADD to CART,” and now you are ready for checkout. On the next page it will display which renewal you have chosen, and a button for checkout. If the current item is what you need for your renewal, please click “CHECKOUT.” There is a Shipping Option which should be left on “Standard,” because nothing will be shipped (this is strictly electronic).

Note: If the current item is not what you wanted or needed, select “REMOVE” directly below “UPDATE.” After you have removed the item from your shopping cart click the back button of your internet browser twice to get back to the ESET selection screen.

4. The last component of this stage is to actually pay for the ESET renewal. This screen will ask you for your billing information. This information should match the billing information of the credit card you are using for the purchase. After you have filled in your billing information, and your credit card number, click on accept and the first stage is done! A pair of emails will be sent to you shortly. The first email will have your order number in it, and the second email will have the serial number and a link to activate your ESET renewal. Activating the ESET renewal is the second part of the renewal process.
