Troubleshooting Internet Explorer 9 in Windows 7

When opening Internet Explorer there can be a multitude of errors that appear or prevent you from accessing certain web sites. There are many troubleshooting steps that will work for several of these errors and get you on to web browsing. The following guide will walk through three main troubleshooting steps for problems in Internet Explorer 9.

Reset Internet Explorer
  1. Open Internet Explorer 9 by clicking Start, All Programs, and selecting Internet Explorer

  2. Click the Tools icon in the upper right corner of the screen

  3. Click Internet Options

  4. Select the Advanced Tab

  5. Click the Reset button

  6. Click the Reset button
    • Note the check for deleting personal settings

  7. When the reset is complete click Close

  8. A message will appear across the bottom prompting to restart Internet Explorer. Close Internet Explorer.

Open an InPrivate Browsing session

An InPrivate Browsing session in Internet Explorer is essentially the same web browser but does not keep track of browsing history, temporary internet files, form data, cookies, or any user data. Should an inprivate browsing session solve the problem, then you may try disabling cookies or clearing all personal settings when resetting Internet Explorer.
  1. Open Internet Explorer 9 by clicking Start, All Programs, and selecting Internet Explorer.

  2. Click the Tools icon in the upper right corner of the screen

  3. Select the Safety option

  4. Click InPrivate Browsing to open a new session

  5. A new window will open as an InPrivate browsing window. This is indicated at the top beside the address bar. In this new window attempt to view websites by typing www.microcenter.com in the address bar (circled in blue) and pressing Enter on the keyboard. If this works then reset Internet Explorer 9 again, but check the box for "Delete Personal Settings."

Disable Protected Mode
  1. Open Internet Explorer 9 by clicking Start, All Programs, and selecting Internet Explorer.

  4. Click the Security Tab

  5. Select the Internet Zone

  6. Un-Check Enable Protected Mode

  7. Click OK on the ensuing dialogue box

  8. Close and restart Internet Explorer.

How to Calibrate the MacBook Battery

The battery for the iBook and the MacBook has a microchip inside the battery that controls the charge and discharge process of the unit. The battery needs to be recalibrated to keep the on screen display of the percentage and time accurate.
You should perform this function when you first get the unit and every two or three months from then on. If you use the system mostly on AC, you may need to perform this monthly.

  1. Plug in the power adapter and fully charge you MacBook. Watching the indicator lights to make sure you have a full charge.
  2. Disconnect the AC power and use the MacBook till you receive the warning about the low battery.
  3. Continue to use the unit until the system until it goes to sleep.
  4. Connect the AC power adapter and fully recharge the battery again. This will calibrate the battery. One full charge discharge and full recharge will calibrate the battery.
NOTE: Some MacBook Pro's may need to have the battery rest for a couple of hours before performing the calibration steps.

How to Change your Home Page in Internet Explorer

This is a guide on how to change the home page in Internet Explorer. The home page is the first web site to be displayed when you open Internet Explorer and can be changed to any web site that you choose. This method of changing the home page works in Internet Explorer version 6, 7, 8 and 9.

  1. First navigate to the web site you would like to set the home page to, for this document it will be www.microcentertech.com .



  2. Click on Tools. If Tools isn’t displayed, press the Alt key on the keyboard. It should now be displayed under the address bar.


  3. Select Internet Options from the list.


  4. In the Internet Options menu, set the home page by clicking on Use current, then Apply. When complete, click OK to return back to the website.


    Your home page has now been set. When you open Internet Explorer, it will open to this page.

Microsoft Outlook Won't Launch

This article will show you how to fix the error message “Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot Open the Outlook Window.” This issue seems to be caused by either an add-on or a navigation pane within the Outlook program being moved in to a position that is illegal within the Outlook program.

  1. On the desktop of the computer that receives the error message, close all open windows.
  2. On your keyboard, hold the Windows key and tap the letter R.


  3. In the Run dialog box that opens, type “outlook.exe /resetnavpane” without the quotes.


  4. Click OK and the Outlook application will open. Note that some window pane placements may have to be reset.
