Personalize Windows 7: Icons and Start Menu

Windows 7 has several features that allow you to personalize your desktop for ease of use. In the Start menu, you can prioritize which programs you use most by adding the program to the Start menu list. The Taskbar also gives you the option of pinning your most popular programs on the desktop to access them quickly.

To add a program to the Start Menu:
1. Click on the Start icon.




2. Select All Programs

3. Choose the program and right-click on the program name.

4. In the menu, select Pin to Start Menu.



To remove a program from Start Menu:
1. Right-click on the program name.
2. Select Remove from this list.



To add program to Taskbar:
1. Click on Start icon.





2. Select All Programs.

3. Choose the program and right-click on the program name.
4. In the menu, select Pin to Taskbar.



To customize Taskbar and Start Menu options:
1. Right-click on the Taskbar and select Properties.

2. On the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties menu, click on the Taskbar tab. Here, you can change the position of the taskbar, icon size, and Aero Peek settings.



Under the Start Menu tab, you can organize how the links, icons and menus look from the Start Menu in addition to how many programs to display at a time.


The Toolbars tab gives you the option to add other toolbars to your desktop.


3. When complete, select Apply, then OK.
